We got offered an allotment last week and of course we jumped at the offer, even before seeing how badly overgrown it was we knew we'd take it on as we so badly wanted more outside space to grow fruit, veg & flowers. We confirmed acceptance Friday and got started straight away...
This is one side before we started, and then here is 3hrs of hard work later....
This is the other side which had 4 good size beds & a big fruit bush area under all the weeds...
And here is a further 3hrs of hard work later...so a total of 6hrs gone into clearing the site back so far...
We also managed to plant up some cabbages in one of the bed areas but there is much more we need to clear back before we can do anything properly, fingers crossed a little each day will soon get things done!
We realised we do need some new tools though, there is only so much a fork, spade & pair of sceatures can do! We definitely need a rake and some long cutters to get to the fruit area which is very overgrown!
We have been working on plans and have lots of ideas on what we want to achieve including a small pond & wildlife area a flower patch & plenty of fruit & veg beds! We'll be creating it all on a tight budget though so will be doing lots of recycling / upcycling!
