Mental Health

I was diagnosed with 'Manic Depress' (known widely now as Bipolar) when I was a teenager and I've struggled with my mental health for as long as I can remember. Over the years I've had support from a variety of medical professionals NHS, private and holistic. Unfortunately my faith in NHS doctors in the past few years has been well and truly knocked, I personally feel like they are not getting enough training and support in how to deal with people who have mental health conditions and are failing the majority who seek help. The NHS mental health team are overrun, overworked and unable to cope with the amount of people in need of help and support.

Though I still recommend that anyone suffering with a mental health condition seek professional medical assistance I would also highly recommend looking into talk therapy, holistic therapies and doing your own research into finding coping strategies that work for you rather than solely relying on medical doctors and medication.

On this blog I am very open about my own mental health condition and how it affects me and my family. It is important to remember that mental health conditions can affect people differently and not to judge others or make assumptions. What works for one person may not work for others.

Kindness is key. Treat everyone you meet with kindness and respect, you never know how a person is feeling and how your interaction with them may affect them.
